Annamalai quits BJP, preparing to launch independent political movement

Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai is expected to chart a new political course by launching a new movement that could eventually evolve into a political party, according to reports.
Reports indicate that Annamalai formally communicated his decision to BJP leadership and may soon unveil a new organisation. Political observers suggest that the movement’s name could be inspired by a popular phrase associated with Superstar Rajinikanth.
Annamalai, a former IPS officer who joined politics in 2020, quickly became one of the BJP’s most visible faces in Tamil Nadu. As state president, he led several campaigns against the then ruling DMK and undertook extensive public outreach initiatives, helping increase the party’s visibility across the state.
His resignation as state BJP chief in 2025 sparked speculations. He later stepped back from key election responsibilities and chose not to contest in the Assembly elections.
Analysts believe Annamalai sees an opportunity to attract educated urban and semi-urban voters, particularly those seeking alternatives to established political parties. With the emergence of new political forces in Tamil Nadu, speculation continues over how his potential movement could reshape the state’s political landscape.
