Annamalai blames DMK government for dip in NEET pass percentage
State BJP president K Annamalai blamed the ruling DMK government and School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh for the dip in the pass percentage of government school students in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).
In his statement, Annamalai alleged that the DMK government and ministers were unable to withstand the success of the large number of government school students in the NEET exams last year. “They were playing with students’ future for their petty politics,” he added.
He pointed out the non-continuation of the E-Box training programme, which was conducted by the state school education department as a major reason for this.
While demanding the government to explain the reason for not continuing the programme, he pointed out that minister’s comment about rural students being forced to attend the NEET examinations as they have no choice, belittles the students and diverts the attention of the people from the issue.
“Despite knowing the fact that only 31 students from government schools joined medicine between 2007 and 2016 when there were no entrance examinations for the course, the minister should not speak in such a manner. It amounts to cheap politics,” Annamalai added.
