Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Chennai on Wednesday evening ahead of a meeting of the chief ministers of southern states and Puducherry.

Shah is expected to land at Chennai’s old airport at around 7.40 pm on August 19 after travelling from New Delhi by special flight. He will then proceed to a private hotel at Kovalam along the East Coast Road, where he is scheduled to stay overnight.

The conference will take place on Thursday and will bring together the chief ministers of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Puducherry. Shah is scheduled to preside over the meeting and address the participants.

His return journey is planned for Thursday afternoon. He is expected to leave Kovalam at about 2.30 pm, reach the old airport around 3.30 pm and depart for New Delhi shortly afterwards.

Security preparations for the visit have already begun. Chennai airport officials held a coordination meeting after receiving the Union government’s communication about Shah’s arrival.

Representatives from the airport, Chennai Police, Intelligence Bureau, VIP security teams and other security agencies took part in the preparations.

Security will be stepped up at the airport on Wednesday and Thursday, while additional measures will be implemented along Shah’s planned road routes between the airport and Kovalam.
