American Center Pavilion at the Chennai Book Fair
The American Center Chennai, which has been an integral part of Chennai’s cultural and literary landscape for the last 76 years, will offer an American Center Pavilion during the 47th Chennai Book Fair hosted at the YMCA.
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to meet staff and view books at stall number N1.
U.S. Consul General Chennai Christopher Hodges inaugurated the American Center Pavilion on Friday, January 5, 2024.
Consul General Hodges said, “The American Center’s presence at the book fair explores the way literature and information of all kinds can encourage new ideas, innovation, and creativity. We support the next generation of Indian and American changemakers to question assumptions, think critically, and harness their own unique perspective to shape the world around them. Under the theme ‘In Your Own Words,’ our booth features leaders and artists who have been pioneers in this journey.”
This year’s theme at the American Center Pavilion is “In Your Own Words,” a recognition of freedom of speech and expression as tools for empowerment.
Programming at the 2024 Chennai Book Fair includes an exhibition on American Cartoonist Etta Hulme curated by American Fulbright Nehru alumna Dr. Ritu Khanduri, a slam poetry competition for college students, dedicated sessions on higher education in the United States of America, book readings, fun and educational storytelling workshops for young children, and exchange program consultations.
The Pavilion will also host an interactive literary social on the legacy of Maya Angelou’s work with professors of English and Tamil Literature, thanks to the publication of a new U.S. Consulate supported project to translate some of her greatest works into Tamil.
The American Center Pavilion will highlight education and exchange opportunities in the United States, while introducing resources and exclusive programming for patrons —students, experts, researchers, and faculty— to avail.
The American Center’s library has a diverse collection of over 15,000 books and vast multimedia e-resources. American Center members can get bespoke amenities, including but not limited to, exclusive personalized access to eLibraryUSA.
