All eyes on Vijay’s “detailed reply” in Assembly on Monday
Tensions rose inside the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Thursday as the DMK stepped up its criticism of the ruling TVK government over the state’s law-and-order situation.
Chief Minister Vijay responded by assuring the House that he would address the Opposition’s questions in detail when he speaks on Monday. He also appealed to the Speaker to ensure that Opposition members remained in the House during his response instead of walking out.
Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin questioned the TVK government’s repeated criticism of the previous DMK regime over drug-related issues. He asked why two senior police officers who had held key positions during the DMK administration were subsequently promoted if the earlier government’s handling of the issue was considered inadequate.
Stalin also raised concerns about rising crime and POCSO cases in Tamil Nadu. He said the previous government had introduced special committees and standard operating procedures aimed at helping victims and speeding up the legal process.
Responding to the allegations, Vijay told the Speaker that he would provide explanations for the issues raised by the Opposition when he returned on Monday. He also said he would keep track of questions raised in his absence and answer them.
The Chief Minister’s remarks came amid a heated exchange in the House. Stalin later criticised the government over its alleged handling of protests and student dissent, including demonstrations linked to the NEET issue.
Public Works Department Minister Aadhav Arjuna also targeted the previous DMK government, referring to crime figures mentioned in its policy documents, including murder statistics from 2020 and 2021. Opposition MLAs protested the remarks, leading to noisy scenes inside the Assembly.
