Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly removed from Netflix following Madras High Court order

Ajith Kumar’s action-thriller Good Bad Ugly has been removed from Netflix, following an interim injunction issued by the Madras High Court.

The order was passed in a copyright infringement suit filed by legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja against the film’s producers, Mythri Movie Makers.

Ilaiyaraaja’s legal team sent a notice to the production house, alleging that three of his classic songs were used in the film without his authorization: “Otha Rubayum Tharen” from Nattupura Pattu, “Ilamai Idho Idho” from Sakalakala Vallavan, and “En Jodi Manja Kuruvi” from Vikram.

The composer, who has been fiercely protective of his intellectual property rights, argued that these songs were used, altered, and commercially exploited without his express consent or payment of royalties.

While Mythri Movie Makers responded to the legal notice, claiming they had obtained necessary permissions, the Madras High Court found their reply to be “bald” and lacking specific details about who granted the authorization.

Consequently, Justice N. Senthilkumar granted an ex-parte interim injunction, restraining the producers from exhibiting, screening, selling, distributing, or broadcasting the film on any platform, including OTT, with the said songs.

This court order led to the film’s immediate removal from Netflix, where it had been streaming since its digital premiere. The film will remain off the platform until the legal dispute is resolved.
