AIADMK general secretary Palaniswami meets Amit Shah, sparks buzz on BJP-AIADMK alliance
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi today, sparking speculation about a possible revival of ties between the BJP and AIADMK ahead of the Tamil Nadu state elections in 2026.
Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also hinted that the opposition leader travelled to Delhi to meet senior BJP leaders with his ‘don’t forget to talk about two-language policy; remark.
The meeting comes amid growing speculation about AIADMK reconsidering its stance on an alliance with the BJP. Earlier this month, when asked about an alliance with the BJP, EPS urged people to “wait for six months,” not denying the possibility.
The AIADMK had severed ties with the BJP in 2023, citing political differences, but with elections approaching, the dynamics appear to be shifting. Both the BJP and AIADMK took a soft stance towards each other, directing their united opposition to the ruling DMK.
Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai on March 8 claimed that his party’s growing influence made it a sought-after ally ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections in the state. Although he did not name the AIADMK, his remarks came after EPS hinted at keeping options open.
