AIADMK aims for absolute majority in 2026: Palaniswami

With less than a year remaining for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) has expressed strong confidence in his party’s ability to secure an absolute majority and form the next government.

Simultaneously, he has reiterated the AIADMK’s openness to forging electoral alliances with “like-minded parties” that are opposed to the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

“Our only intention is to remove the DMK government, which is anti-people,” Palaniswami stated.

“Those parties who have the same intention should join hands with us and face the election. We are happy to ally with such political parties, and they too should cooperate with us.”

This statement comes hot on the heels of actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) categorically ruling out an alliance with the BJP and DMK.

While EPS did not directly invite TVK, his remarks are seen as a clear overture to any party sharing the objective of ousting the current government.

The AIADMK’s stance also follows Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s earlier assertion in April that the BJP and AIADMK would contest the 2026 elections together under the leadership of the AIADMK, with the Chief Ministerial candidate from the AIADMK.

This declaration had seemingly solidified the AIADMK-BJP alliance after a period of strained relations.
