Actor Sassi Selvaraj Receives Rave Reviews for His Performance in ‘Veeran'”
Actor Sassi Selvaraj is ecstatic, and why wouldn’t he be? His performance in ARK Saravan’s “Veeran”, featuring Hiphop Tamizha Adhi, Vinay Rai, and Athira Raj in the lead roles, has received an abundance of positive responses from audiences.Having started his journey from humble beginnings as a YouTuber in 2016, Sassi expresses his contentment with how his career has unfolded. “I embarked on my career as a YouTuber in 2016. I have always nurtured a passion for entering the world of cinema, but I was unsure of where to begin. Nevertheless, I wanted to channelise that passion, and that’s how my YouTube channel was born. As I ventured into the realm of content creation, I also got involved in a couple of short films. Through this, I landed a wonderful role in Dream Warrior’s ‘Vattam.’ However, the pandemic struck, resulting in a considerable amount of waiting and delays. Nevertheless, as soon as the lockdowns were lifted, I had the opportunity to play one of the leads in ‘Ammuchi 2’ on Aha. It was during this period that I received a call for ‘Veeran’,” Sassi explains.
The actor recounts receiving a call from the director’s team and submitting his audition. He states, “The team liked my audition, and Saravan called me. Initially, when I heard the narration over the phone, I didn’t fully grasp the film due to its nuanced nature. However, Saravan asked me to meet in person, and that’s when I gained a clearer understanding of the film. I instantly fell in love with my character, Sakkarai. During our meet-up, the director and I worked on a couple of scenes.”
Giving us more insight into his role, Sassi elaborates, “Sakkarai is more than just the hero’s friend. True to his name, he is a sweet guy. In fact, the film begins by introducing the characters Kumaran, Selvi, and Sakkarai, their bond, and how they propel the story forward.”
Sassi emphasises the extensive preparation he undertook to perfect his role. He mentions, “The director stressed the importance of capturing the body language of a local town guy accurately, as Sakkarai owns a salon in his town. I studied the body language of individuals working in rural salons to ensure my portrayal was relatable and realistic. I put in a lot of effort. Even for dialogue delivery, I would acquire scene papers beforehand to ensure I got it right during the shoot.”
Fortunately for him, Sassi’s realistic performance has captured the hearts of many. He beams as he recounts, “When I watched the film in the theatre alongside the audience, numerous people approached me to express their appreciation.” He adds, “I am grateful to Sathya Jyothi Films and Thyagarajan sir for giving me this opportunity. Thyagarajan sir even praised my performance. Aadhi was incredibly supportive and friendly, while Saravan sir provided invaluable assistance to get the role right. Today, I feel a greater sense of responsibility as an actor and eagerly anticipate working on more films.”
