16 held, 11 bikes seized after racing complaints near Valluvar Kottam
Greater Chennai Police have arrested 16 people and seized 11 two-wheelers following complaints of dangerous bike racing and wheeling near Valluvar Kottam in Nungambakkam on Sunday.
Police said they received complaints about a group of around 15 to 20 youngsters allegedly racing motorcycles and performing stunts on the busy road, putting other road users at risk. The riders were accused of driving at high speed and in a reckless manner.
As part of the crackdown, police also conducted vehicle checks and seized 56 two-wheelers that were being operated without number plates. Special teams have been formed to trace and arrest others suspected to be involved in the racing.
Police have warned that strict action will be taken against those engaging in bike racing, wheeling and other dangerous riding practices on public roads.
