Lineman: A Tale of Dreams, Challenges, and Resilience

Dreaming big often invites challenges, and Lineman, directed by Udhaikumar, beautifully portrays this universal truth. Set in the serene salt pans of Thoothukudi, the film narrates the inspiring journey of Senthil (Jegan Balaji), a young electronics enthusiast striving to innovate and uplift his village.

Senthil’s groundbreaking invention aims to conserve electricity and revolutionize his community’s future. However, his ideas are met with skepticism from the villagers, who see his ambition as impractical. In this uphill battle, Senthil’s greatest ally is his father, Subbayya (Charlie), a dedicated lineman known for his honesty and hard work. Subbayya’s unwavering faith in his son provides the emotional backbone of the story, helping Senthil face financial struggles, societal ridicule, and bureaucratic hurdles as he seeks to present his invention to the district collector.

The film’s strength lies in its authentic depiction of rural life, capturing the scenic beauty and challenges of Thoothukudi with finesse. At its core is the tender and relatable father-son bond. Charlie shines as Subbayya, delivering a heartfelt performance that anchors the narrative. His portrayal exudes warmth, making Subbayya an unforgettable character. Jegan Balaji impresses as the determined yet vulnerable Senthil, balancing the weight of his dreams with familial expectations.

The supporting cast adds layers to the story. Saranya Ravichandran, though limited by screen time, delivers a commendable performance, while Aditi Balan’s brief cameo leaves a lasting impression.

While some sequences could have delved deeper emotionally, and a few characters feel underexplored, Lineman succeeds in highlighting the resilience of ordinary people with extraordinary aspirations. It serves as a tribute to unsung heroes whose innovations often go unnoticed, weaving a tale of perseverance and hope.
