12th Edition of Veedhi Viruthu Vizha 2025 at Velammal

Velammal Nexus in collaboration with the Alternative Media Centre, is proud to present the 12th edition of the vibrant Veedhi Viruthu Vizha on the 4th and 5th of January, 2025.

This cultural extravaganza aims to recognize, revive, and promote Indian traditional art forms. Over 5,000 folk artistes from across Tamil Nadu are expected to participate, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region with immense pride.

The event was inaugurated at Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Mogappair East with great enthusiasm in the esteemed presence of:

¯  Shri M. V. M. Velmohan, Correspondent of Velammal Nexus

¯  Prof. (Dr.) R. Kaleeshwaran, Founder of the Alternative Media Centre

Shri. Nassar, President of the Nadigar Sangam graced the occasion with his gracious presence. Their presence added grandeur to this magnificent celebration of culture and tradition.

The festival featured mesmerizing performances of Tamil Nadu’s traditional folk arts, including Karagattam, Poikkal Kuthirai, Paraiattam, and Oyilattam. These distinct cultural expressions were brought to life with vibrant colors and rich, resonant music, creating a truly immersive experience. The event not only served as a celebration of these art forms but also as an important initiative aimed at preserving and promoting the invaluable heritage of rural arts. Moreover, it provided a distinguished platform for emerging and accomplished artists to showcase their talent and gain well-deserved recognition.

In addition to the entertainment, the event also honoured Tamil cinema’s trendsetters who have made significant contributions by conveying social awareness messages through their films, thus educating the public on important social causes.
