Vijay govt expands breakfast scheme to cover classes 6 to 8

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Monday announced that the state’s breakfast programme for students will be extended to cover children studying up to Class VIII in government and government-aided schools.

The announcement was made during a review meeting held at the State Secretariat, where the Chief Minister assessed the performance of schemes administered by the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department.

According to an official statement, the meeting examined a range of welfare initiatives benefiting children, women, transgender individuals, and senior citizens. These programmes are implemented through the Social Welfare Department, the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), and the Department of Child Welfare and Special Services.

The review also focused on future initiatives proposed under the government’s ‘Vetritamilagam’ (Victorious Tamil Nadu) vision plan.

Officials presented updates on the functioning of One Stop Centres for women, adoption facilities, helplines serving women, children and senior citizens, nutrition programmes such as the breakfast and midday meal schemes, and the operations of Anganwadi centres across the state.
