India is a land with extraordinary diversities, but with a thread of unity that connects people across boundaries of geography and culture. It is this diversity that is presented in this Art Brunch, a fusion of food and art. Culinary diversity, being one of India’s treasures, the Art Brunch presents the wealth of flavours each region offers, along with a display of the finest art that truly showcases the richness of this ancient land’s landscapes, flora and fauna. The Art show is a group show, featuring the paintings of three artists. The art will be a visual treat of the varied cultures that make this country beautiful. The art show is aptly titled ‘Diverse Landscapes’
“Diverse Landscapes is a show celebrating India’s extraordinary diversities, through food and art. While culinary diversities are presented by Executive Chef Pranjal Gogoi and his team of amazing chefs, the art displayed showcases the rich landscapes of this ancient land . Three artists – Anitha TK, Martin OC and Aji Adoor, through their paintings, have provided different perspectives of the varied landscapes that make this country so beautiful. The show is a journey through India’s unique and diverse cultures. “Said Jitha Karthikeyan, curator of Diverse Landscapes.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
- MARTIN OC
Martin is a self-taught artist from Thrissur, Kerala. He has had several solo and group shows in various cities across the country. He has also won the State Award in 2012, from the Kerala Lalitha Kala Akademi and the Honorable Mention in 2010 and 2002. His career as an artist began in 1995. His works are his response to the life and society surrounding him. A lot of his works have thickly woven patches of greenery. As the quiet villages around him slowly started transforming into urban landscapes, water became a natural backdrop in his paintings as almost all human civilisations have been born on the banks of water bodies . Martin is also actively involved with some of the leading theatre groups in Kerala, which has lent energy to his art practice.
- AJI ADOOR
Aji is an artist based in Kochi, Kerala. He has completed his Masters in Fine Arts from Mysore. He has exhibited all over the country in several prestigious galleries. Aji’s paintings are primarily landscapes. As a child, he started with the simple ‘sun between two mountains’ which slowly progressed into landscapes, as he discovered the beauty of nature on his travels throughout the country. Aji calls himself the traveller of the hills, as he finds that a journey to the mountains is always spiritually exalting. Every state in India has unique mountains with their own biological and spiritual diversity. Aji travels extensively to experience this diversity and his paintings are a form of worship of nature, especially the mountains. These majestic landscapes he presents on his canvases, often makes the viewer understand how insignificant humans are.
- ANITHA TK
Anitha is a self-taught artist from Kerala. She has participated in several shows and works in the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department. This 53 year old artist forayed into painting in her 30’s. Her paintings explore man’s emotional relationship with nature. They speak of a yearning for the childhood of the past, when open spaces were abundant and the world around richer with natural resources. Anitha derives inspiration from her roots. Growing up amidst nature, her art is a natural reflection of where she comes from. Though there is nothing complex about her paintings, it speaks of all the small things we have lost, though we may have gained so much as a society.
