Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar orders fresh inquiry into resignation of four former AIADMK MLAs, asks EPS to appear

Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar has initiated a fresh inquiry into the resignation of four former AIADMK legislators, directing party general secretary and legislature party leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) and the former MLAs to appear separately before him on July 30.

Official communications issued by the Assembly Secretariat state that the Speaker decided to conduct another round of personal hearings after reviewing previous proceedings and representations submitted by the AIADMK leadership. The move is intended to verify whether the resignations were submitted voluntarily and in accordance with constitutional and legal provisions governing legislators’ resignations.

The four former legislators—P. Sathyabama, S. Jayakumar, K. Maragatham Kumaravel and Esakki Subbaiah—had earlier met the Speaker and recorded their statements following the submission of their resignation letters.

Fresh hearings have now been scheduled, with each former MLA allotted a separate 30-minute slot on July 30. The Assembly Secretariat has instructed them to appear in person and provide their explanations.

EPS has also been asked to attend the proceedings and has been informed that he may question the former legislators during the inquiry if he wishes. The Speaker is expected to decide on the validity of the resignations after completing the hearings.
