Mani Ratnam begins shooting new film in Kolkata with Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi

Director Mani Ratnam has started filming his next project in Kolkata, with scenes currently being shot around the iconic Howrah Bridge.

Images and videos from the location show actors Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi interacting with the filmmaker between takes. The film marks Vijay Sethupathi’s reunion with Mani Ratnam after Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, while Sai Pallavi is collaborating with the acclaimed director for the first time.

The yet untitled project is expected to explore the romantic drama genre, an area that has featured prominently in several of Mani Ratnam’s celebrated films over the decades.

The film is being jointly produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions, with A.R. Rahman composing the music. The project marks another milestone in the long-running creative partnership between the filmmaker and the Oscar-winning composer.

Mani Ratnam’s most recent release was Thug Life, which brought him back together with Kamal Haasan and featured an ensemble cast including Silambarasan TR, Trisha, Nassar, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Abhirami and Joju George.
