CM Vijay targets DMK and AIADMK over Pocso case involving Gem Granites Veeramani
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam supremo and Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has criticised both the DMK and AIADMK over their response to a Pocso case involving Gem Granites chairman R Veeramani.
Addressing supporters while campaigning in the Madurantakam Assembly constituency ahead of the bypoll, Vijay alleged that the case, which was registered during the earlier DMK government, had not received adequate attention and accused the then regime of attempting to suppress the matter.
Vijay said he was raising the issue because of its seriousness and questioned why the two major Dravidian parties had not publicly addressed the allegations surrounding Veeramani.
He also directly challenged Chief Minister MK Stalin to explain what had happened to the case during the previous administration. Vijay alleged that young girls had suffered sexual exploitation and questioned whether political considerations had influenced the handling of the matter.
Taking aim at the AIADMK as well, Vijay asked why the party had remained silent on the issue. He further alleged that both parties had frequently presented themselves as protectors of women’s interests but were not speaking out in this case.
Vijay’s remarks come after authorities took action against Veeramani. His allegations regarding the conduct of previous governments remain political claims and would require independent verification.
