A gentle, feel-good romance that lingers in the heart
With Love is a sweet, breezy romantic drama that quietly stays with you long after the final frame. Told through a modern coming-of-age lens, the film beautifully explores nostalgia, emotional honesty, and the art of acceptance. Releasing in theatres on February 6 amid strong pre-release buzz, the film confidently lives up to expectations and marks an impressive debut for both lead actor Abishan Jeevinth and director Madhan.
From the opening moments, With Love establishes itself as a light-hearted, feel-good journey that flows with ease. The story follows Sathya (Abishan Jeevinth), a young man hesitant about arranged marriages, who reluctantly agrees to a blind date set up by his sister. He meets Monisha (Anaswara Rajan), and a simple conversation soon reveals a shared past — they were once senior and junior in the same school. This coincidence gently opens the door to memories of first love, heartbreak, missed opportunities, and the emotions we unknowingly carry into adulthood.
The first half is effortlessly charming and instantly likeable. With consistent humour and warm storytelling, the film glides through moments of innocent romance and chance encounters, keeping the mood light and engaging. Its greatest strength lies in its emotional sincerity, which makes these early portions feel both relatable and comforting.
The second half adds emotional depth while retaining the film’s inherent sweetness. Themes of acceptance, understanding loved ones, and confronting personal regrets are handled with maturity and restraint. Rather than slipping into melodrama, the film maintains a dignified tone, allowing the coming-of-age elements to blend seamlessly with the romance.
Abishan Jeevinth delivers a remarkably natural debut, bringing quiet confidence and ease to his role. Anaswara Rajan is refreshing and expressive, offering a long-overdue, authentic portrayal of the emotional world of back-bench girls, further enhanced by her fluent Tamil dubbing. Kavya Anil adds a soft charm that evokes the warmth of first crushes.
Technically polished, the film is elevated by Sean Roldan’s soulful music and Shreyaas Krishna’s warm, nostalgic visuals. With strong production values and heartfelt storytelling, With Love emerges as one of the most endearing Tamil films of the year so far — sweet, relatable, and effortlessly lovable.
