As many as 98 per cent of Covid-19 cases in Tamil Nadu’s capital Chennai are asymptomatic, Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash has said.
The medical expert committee constituted by the Tamil Nadu government said lockdown has to be lifted in a phased manner as the status of recovering from coronavirus is not equal across all districts.
They have recommended that people should continue to follow the norms of social distancing and personal hygiene including keeping their hands clean. The committee has recommended people to avoid mass gatherings and crowding.
Meanwhile, State Health Minister, Dr Vijayabaskar in an interview with The Hindu said the extended lockdown will help Tamil Nadu intensify preventive measures in its COVID-19 containment zones.
“It will certainly help in a more focused approach in preventing the spread of COVID-19. We will intensify preventive measures in containment areas and create more awareness among people on the safety protocol. Physical distancing is key. I am sure that the extended lockdown will help in flattening the curve in Tamil Nadu,” he added.
