With 96,424 new cases, India’s Covid tally crosses 52 lakh

India’s Covid-19 case tally crosses 52-lakh mark with a spike of 96,424 new cases & 1,174 deaths in last 24 hours.

The total case tally stands at 52,14,678 including 10,17,754 active cases, 41,12,552 cured/discharged/migrated & 84,372 deaths, said the health ministry. Globally, over 30 million people have been infected with the coronavirus.

Highest single day recoveries at 87.4k. Total recoveries over 41 lakh. Recovery rate now at 78.9%. The total case tally in India stands at 52,14,678 including 10,17,754 active cases, 41,12,552 cured/discharged/migrated and a total of 84,372 deaths.

Newly elected Rajya Sabha member Ashok Gasti, who was admitted to a private hospital after testing positive for the novel coronavirus, died on Thursday night, the hospital said.

A grassroots level worker hailing from Raichur, Gasti was elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha in June this year on a BJP ticket. He was elected to Rajya Sabha on June 12, along with former Prime Minister and JD(S) candidate H D Deve Gowda, Congress candidate Mallikarjun Kharge and another BJP candidate Eranna Kadadi.

Today is the 179th day since India implemented a nationwide lockdown, to help curb the novel coronavirus pandemic. So far, India has recorded 52,14,677 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 84,372 deaths. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have reported the highest number of cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
