Winter Session of Parliament to begin today

The Winter Session of Parliament will begin today, December 4. It will continue till the 22nd of December. It will have 15 sittings spread over 19 days.

The Government had convened an all-party meeting on Saturday to seek cooperation from political parties to ensure the smooth functioning of both the Houses of Parliament during the session.

The government emphasized its readiness for discussions on all issues and said that everything depends upon the opposition ensuring an enabling environment in the House.

On the first day of the session today, the Ethics Committee report on cash for query charges against TMC MP Mahua Moitra is scheduled to be tabled in the Lok Sabha.

Akashvani’s correspondent reports that a total of 19 bills are scheduled to be taken up during the Winter Session of Parliament beginning today.

These include the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, the Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill, The Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill and the Provisional Collection of Taxes Bill 2023.

Among Financial Business, there will be a Presentation, Discussion and Voting on the First Batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants for the year 2023-24 and the introduction, consideration and passing of the related Appropriation Bill.

This session will be the last full-fledged session of 17th Lok Sabha.
