When will action be taken on the allegations against AIADMK: Madras High Court asks ECI
The Madras High Court, on Friday directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to file a written response by July 21, 2025, to a batch of six petitions filed by the AIADMK.
These petitions are seeking an expedited decision on the ECI’s jurisdiction to entertain representations made by expelled members of the party.
The AIADMK has complained that the ECI has been delaying a decision on the matter for months, despite having completed its inquiry on April 28, 2025.
The core of the dispute revolves around the ECI’s authority to intervene in the internal affairs of the AIADMK, particularly concerning the party’s leadership and the “two leaves” symbol.
The High Court’s directive emphasizes the need for the ECI to clarify its position and take a decision on the preliminary issue of its jurisdiction before proceeding further.
