Weather Alert: Rain to intensify from November 1, Heavy showers expected in these districts
Tamil Nadu is likely to witness an increase in rainfall from November 1 following the formation of a low-pressure area over the south Andaman Sea on Thursday morning.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), the weather system is expected to strengthen into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea by October 31. Its development could bring widespread showers and thunderstorms to several parts of Tamil Nadu over the following days.
On November 1, isolated areas in Tiruchy, Karur, Namakkal, Salem and Erode are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall. Similar weather conditions are forecast for northern coastal districts and areas along the Western Ghats.
Puducherry and Karaikal may also experience showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are possible in some locations.
The rainfall activity is expected to become more significant on November 2. The RMC has forecast heavy rain at isolated places in Coimbatore and the Nilgiris. Other parts of Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, are likely to receive light to moderate showers with thunderstorms and strong winds.
On November 3, the possibility of heavy rainfall will continue in the Nilgiris. Moderate showers are also expected across the Western Ghats region and northern parts of Tamil Nadu.
Residents in the affected districts are advised to follow weather updates and exercise caution during thunderstorms and periods of strong winds.
