VIPs make beeline to Abhinandan’s residence in Chennai, India makes all efforts to get him back

Minister D Jayakumar, BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan, Member of Parliament Ramachandran, DMDK leader Premalatha Vijayakanth, Chennai Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan and others visited the residence of IAF pilot Abhinandan, who was captured by Pakistan on Wednesday.

The Vayujal residential community at Madambakkam in Chennai was also thronged by residents and the public, who expressed solidarity with Abhinandan’s parents.

Meanwhile, India is taking all efforts to ensure that he returned at the earliest. IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman is in Pakistan’s custody after his MiG-21 Bison was brought down in Pakistan occupied Kashmir post an engagement with Pakistani Air Force jets violating Indian airspace yesterday morning.

Abhinandan Varthaman displayed great bravery before he was captured by Pakistani army officials after his MiG 21 jet landed across the LoC.

The Indian government on Wednesday confirmed that when Pakistani aircraft invaded Indian airspace, the Indian Air Force jets intercepted them and in that engagement, one MiG21 jet was lost and a pilot was missing. The pilot was later identified as Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.

Commentators across the world called for proper treatment of the Prisoner of War (PoW), in accordance with the Geneva Convention. Several analysts even claimed that Pakistan had already broken the said rules by bringing his interrogation to public view.

“It was made clear that Pakistan would be well advised to ensure that no harm comes to the Indian defence personnel in its custody. India also expects his immediate and safe return,” the MEA said.
