Vimanam movie review

Story:

Samuthirakani lives in a colony near the airport and looks after the public toilet there to earn a meagre living.

His son Dhruvan is an intelligent boy who does well at school, but he is obsessed with airplanes and flying.

Dhruvan’s dream is to get on an airplane and fly high in the sky, and that’s all he ever talks about.

The young boy keeps running off to the airport compound and tries to peep through the crevices, trying to catch a glimpse of the flights landing and taking off.

Dhruvan and Samuthirakani’s lives revolve around this and their colony neighbours, Rahul Ramakrishna, a cobbler, auto driver Dhanraj and Anasuya Bharadwaj, a prostitute.

One day, Dhruvan’s principal calls Samuthirakani to tell him his son has cleared the Sainik School entrance test and can now get a wonderful education. Samuthirakani’s dream of educating his son and his son’s dream of becoming a pilot all seem within reach.

But Dhruvan suddenly faints and when he is rushed to hospital, Veerayya hears some devastating news. What happened to Dhruvan? Is Samuthirakani able to fulfill his son’s dream of flying forms the rest of the story?

Analysis:

‘Vimanam’ is Siva Prasad Yennala’s debut film and he has written the story as well. This movie banks heavily on sad emotions, poverty, terrible luck and negative circumstances.

While the father-son bond is a positive aspect in Vimanam and is what the director wanted to capitalize on, he filled the story with so much melodrama that it’s far too bleak to enjoy.

Samuthirakani has breathed life into his role. The way Samuthirakani portrayed the character and delivered the expressions took the film to the next-level.

Dhruvan has understood his role and has delivered an effective performance.

These two characters are the pillars of Vimanam. Rest of the cast have also done their part well.

Music by Charan Raju is impressive. Rest of the techincal aspects are okay.
