Vikram to replace Kamal in Marudhanayagam?

Raj Kamal Films has reportedly approached ‘Chiyaan’ Vikram to play the title role of Marudhanayagam, which happens to be the dream project of Kamal Haasan. It is to be noted that Vikram has worked in Kadaram Kondan produced by Kamal Haasan’s production house Raj Kamal Films.

According to sources,  talks began for this project during the making of Kadaram Kondan  and the project could take off by the middle of 2021 once Vikram completes his other commitments.

Vikram, who has Ajay Gnanamuthu’s film followed by Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan agreed to start his prep for the project in the second half of 2020. The film will go on floors in 2021.

Marudhanayagam is period film, which revolves around the life of the 18th century warrior Mohammad Yusuf Khan. It is expected to release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and English.  Kamal Haasan often faces questions about the future of the shelved project Marudhanayagam, which was announced back in 1997 in a grand event with Queen Elizabeth II as the special guest.

A poster of Marudhanayagam displayed with Sundar C’s Sangamithra at the Cannes 2017, had fueled speculations that superstar Kamal Haasan has revived his dream project. In a recent interview, when Kamal Haasan was questioned on his dream movie Marudhanayagam, he has replied that he is also excited to bring out the movie, only that he will not be acting in the movie.

The actor-filmmaker, who is now a politician, has said the the film might come with someone else acting in it, since he is actively into politics and wants to serve people. He went on to say that his production house would continue making good films with other talented actors.

Kamal Haasan had last acted in Vishwaroopam 2, the sequel to his blockbuster Vishwaroopam, and this movie was released last year. After the movie, Kamal Haasan had been focusing on his political career, and his Makkal Needhi Maiam also participated in Lok Sabha elections.
Kamal is currently busy shooting for Indian 2, his upcoming film with director Shankar.
