Close on the heels of makers of Jyothika’s Ponmagal Vandhaal deciding to release the movie on digital platform to tide over the lockdown crisis, there was a buzz that Vijay’s Master too would be streamed first on OTT.
However, sources close to Master have now rubbished the speculations. According to the believable sources, the makers of the Vijay starrer have absolutely no plans to release the movie in the OTT platform, before its theatrical release. The latest reports suggest that the makers are willing to wait till everything is back to normal, to release Master in theaters.
Master directed by Lokesh Kangaraj with music score by Anirudh Ravichander has Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi playing the hero and the villain respectively with Andrea Jeremiah, Malavika Mohanan, Shantanu Bhagyaraj and Arjun Das playing other important roles.
General secretary of TN Theatre Owners’ association, R Panneerselvam, condemned Ponmagal Vandhaal production house’s ‘hasty’ decision in a video on social media.
Stressing that films made for theatrical release, as a policy, must never opt for digital release, he threatened to ban a theatre release of any film involving Suriya, or his production house.
The likes of SR Prabhu and J Satish Kumar had extended their support to the makers of the film, bankrolled by Suriya’s production house. The exhibitors association and producers council are expected to hold a meeting regarding the release of films in streaming sites, allocation of adequate number of shows for small/medium budget movies, etc.
