Vijay’s Bigil opens big, gets last minute clearance for special shows, fans protest

After witnessing twists and turns, it was happy ending for Vijay’s Bigil, as the Tamil Nadu government finally gave permission to screen special shows. Following this, special shows of the film started across Tamil Nadu during the early hours of today.

As the film’s release delayed initially, fans indulged in protest in Krishnagiri. They vandalised shops, sources said. Police personnel intervened and brought things under control.

Meanwhile, a festival mood prevailed in front of theatres screening Bigil and the film witnessed bumper opening. Fans indulged in celebrations like bursting of crackers, beating drums, raising slogans, dancing and distribution of sweets.

The movie’s producer Archana Kalpathi of AGS Entertainment said in a tweet: “A big thank you to our honourable CM and the Government of TamilNadu for allowing special shows for this Diwali Weekend  🙏🙏 😊”

She added: “Special shows have a big impact in box office revenue. A big thank you to our Honourable CM @CMOTamilNadu Sir, Honourable Deputy CM @OfficeOfOPS Sir and Minister Kadambur Raju Sir for making this happen and recognising the work of thousands of families associated with #Bigil  🙏”

The film’s cast includes Nayanthara, Yogi Babu, Vivek, Kathir, Jackie Shroff, Manobala, Daniel Balaji, Anand Raj, Devadarshini, LM Vijayan, Indhuja Ravichandran, Amritha Aiyer, Rebba Monica John, Varsha Bollama and RJ Ananthi.

The film marks the third association of Vijay and Atlee after Theri and Mersal. Vijay and Nayanthara will be seen together again in Bigil after their 2009 drama-thriller Villu. The movie has musical score by Oscar-Grammy winner A R Rahman.
