Vijay’s Bigil distribution rights selling like hot cake

It would be safe to say that Bigil is going to stay in the news until it makes it to the big screens. The latest news about Vijay’s movie is that United India Exporters and X Gen Studio have jointly acquired the overseas rights of Bigil for Rs 30 crore.

According to reports, this is a record price for a Vijay starrer. Among all the Tamil films, this is the second biggest bet after 2.0.

Screen Scene is said to have snapped the Tamil Nadu theatrical rights for a record price and soon, the makers will be issuing an official announcement.

Tamil movies of a certain stature – like a Vijay movie – usually makes hefty profits overseas too. United India Exporters have been exporting and distributing Tamil films overseas for over 25 years now.

They have been associated with movies like Dora, Velaiila Pattadhari, Maari, Rajini Murugan, Kaaki Sattai, Vedalam, Naanum Rowdy Dhan, Jilla, Iraivi, Madras, and Kee, to name a few.

Bigil is expected to release for Deepavali 2019. The last two Deepavalis have also belonged to Vijay, with Mersal and Sarkar setting the box-office on fire. The film has music by AR Rahman and has been produced by AGS Entertainment.

Bigil will mark his third collaboration with friend and director Atlee, after two consecutive hits in Theri (2016) and Mersal (2017).

A local term meaning ‘whistle’, Bigil is a direct reference to the whistle used during a football match. The film is a sporting drama in which Vijay coaches and mentors a women’s football team.
