Vijay graduates to Thalapathi from Ilaya Thalapathi

Vijay is no more Ilaya Thalapathi. He will be known as Thalapathi henceforth, as suggested by the first look posters of his upcoming film Mersal.

The title was unveiled on Wednesday (21 June) on the eve of actor Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s birthday at 6 pm.

Directed by Atlee, Mersal is Vijay’s 61st film and the 100th film of Thenandal Films. Touted to be a mega-budget action entertainer, the film is being simultaneously made in both Tamil and Telugu.

Vijay looks very handsome and the first look poster has a mass feel to it and unlike Atlee’s last hit Theri, here the hero does not have the urban look

The film will have AR Rahman’s music, which will be launched in August. Planned as a grand Deepavali spectacle, the film will see Vijay in three roles, one of which is that of a doctor.

Vijay plays a triple role in the film, which is bankrolled by Sri Thenandal Studios. The three roles feature him as a panchayat head, a doctor and a magician.
