Veteran filmmaker K. Bhagyaraj cremated with State honours
Veteran actor, filmmaker and screenwriter K. Bhagyaraj was laid to rest with full state honours at the Besant Nagar Electric Crematorium following his death from cardiac arrest at the age of 73.
Political leaders, including Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, DMK president M.K. Stalin, and actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, paid their final respects.
Bhagyaraj’s funeral procession began from his Nungambakkam residence, with members of the public gathering along the route to pay tribute.
His son, actor Shanthanu, performed the final rites in the presence of family members, political leaders and film personalities. A ceremonial gun salute was also accorded before the cremation.
Bhagyaraj leaves behind a remarkable legacy as one of Tamil cinema’s most influential writers, directors and actors.
