Veteran Malayalam actor Captain Raju, who was part of many Tamil films as well, passed away in Kochi this morning.
He was 68. He is survived by his wife and a son. The veteran actor, known for his villain roles, had been undergoing treatment after he fell unconscious during a flight to the US two months ago.
After being informed of his condition, the flight was diverted and ended up landing in Oman, Muscat.
Following his family’s request, the actor was then shifted from Muscat to Kochi for further treatment. His condition had been declared stable at the time.
The death came at his residence near Palarivattom. He is survived by wife Prameela and son Raviraj. He had also acted in Telugu and Kannada movies.
He was best noted for his performance in character roles, and as a villain. Raju also appeared in television serials and advertisements. He was a former Indian Army officer.
He was born as second among seven children to K. G. Daniel and Annamma at Omallur, Pathanamthitta District, Kerala in 1950.
He has four sisters named Elizabeth, Saji, Sophy, Sudha and two brothers, George and Mohan. Both his parents were teachers at Govt. UP School Omalloor.
He had his primary education from Govt. UP School Omalloor and NSS English Medium School, Omalloor. He was a volleyball player. He pursued a degree in Zoology from Catholicate College, Pathanamthitta.
After graduation, Raju joined the Indian Army as an officer at the age of 21 and rose to the rank of a captain.
