Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School has emerged as the World Champion in the prestigious FIDE World School Team Championship 2025, held from August 2nd to 7th at Episcopal High School in Washington D.C., USA.
For the first time ever, a school team from Tamil Nadu, India—Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School—represented the nation in this global championship.

The championship consisted of 8 rounds, where the Velammal team played against top school teams from Mongolia, Hungary, Austria, USA, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.
This international event hosted over 250 participants from the top school teams of 55 countries across the globe.
The incredible performance by the five players has brought great pride to the nation, the state of Tamil Nadu, and their school.
