Congress MP and leading entrepreneur H Vasanthakumar died today. He was recently tested positive for Covid-19.
Vasanthakumar was admitted to hospital on August 10 after developing Covid-19 symptoms. He later tested positive.
Earlier in the day, a medical bulletin issued by the hospital where he was getting treatment said, “He is being treated currently in the critical care unit by a team of doctors for severe Covid pneumonia, and his clinical condition remains critical.”
Vasanthakumar, 70, was on ECMO and ventilator and was being monitored by a multidisciplinary team of doctors. While the ventilator used pressure to blow oxygenated air into the lungs, the ECMO pumped blood to a heart-lung machine, which removed carbon dioxide and returns oxygen-filled blood back to tissues. ECMO allowed the blood to “bypass” the heart and lungs, allowing these organs to rest and heal.
