Congress Member of Parliament H Vasanthakumar and two senior IAS officials have tested positive for Covid-19. Revenue Administration Officer Paneendra Reddy and Transport Commissioner Jawahar have been reportedly confirmed with coronavirus infection.
It is said that Vasanthakumar’s wife too has tested positive for Covid-19. While Vasanthakumar and his wife have been admitted to a private hospital in Chennai, the two IAS officers have been admitted to the government facility at King’s Institute at Guindy in the city.
Already, a bunch of MLAs and officials have tested positive for coronavirus in Tamil Nadu, it is to be noted. A total of 5,914 persons tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, taking the total number of cases to 3,02,815. With 114 deaths in the past 24 hours, the death toll reached 5,041.
Chennai managed to report less than 1,000 cases for the fourth consecutive day. With 976 people testing positive on Monday, the city has reported 1,10,121 cases till date.
The western districts together reported 617 cases, compared to 532 in the central region. But the central region on Monday reported 15 deaths compared to 12 in the west. Coimbatore reported seven deaths, followed by four each in Salem (west), and Pudukkottai and Thanjavur.
In the state’s tally of total cases, Chennai accounted for 1,10,121 while adjoining districts of Chengelpet 18,332, Kancheepuram 12,131 and Tiruvallur 17,340 cases.
Other northern districts, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet, Villupuram, Kallakurichi and Tirupattur together tallied 33,558 cases. Tamil film producer V Swaminathan succumbed to COVID-19 on Monday.
The 67-year-old producer, who had produced several successful Kollywood movies under his production house, Lakshmi Movie Makers, had tested positive around a week ago and had been admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
Swaminathan is survived by his wife and two sons.
