As chief minister J Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK tasted victory in the Assembly elections, opposition parties have said she has ‘bought’ the victory with the help of money.

In a statement, Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S Ramadoss said, “this victory has been acquired with the help of money. Our war for dharma (Dharma Yudhdham) will continue.”

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko said, “we accept the judgment of people. Pananayagam (power of money) has won Jananayagam (democracy). This is a black day of democracy.”

He further said they have created an alternative in Tamil Nadu politics (by the formation of DMDK-TMC-PWF alliance) and said their fight will continue. “I thank all voters who extended their support to us,” he said.

Fighting heavy odds, J Jayalalithaa proved her detractors wrong again with her grit and determination as she steered AIADMK to power for a second consecutive term, bucking the tradition since 1984 when no party has retained power in Tamil Nadu.

Poised for a successive term in office with her party establishing clear leads in over 125 seats, AIADMK supremo and Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday said her party had managed the “historic” win despite absence of an alliance and hailed people’s faith in her.
