Udhayanidhi Stalin released after Madras High Court intervention
Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin was released on Tuesday evening after being questioned by the police, following the Madras High Court’s direction that he should not be kept in custody in connection with a case registered over his alleged remarks at a recent public meeting.
Earlier in the day, Udhayanidhi Stalin was taken into custody by the police and brought to the Sengipatti Police Station in Thanjavur district for inquiry after an FIR was registered against him. His detention sparked protests by DMK cadres at several locations across Tamil Nadu, with party leaders condemning the action as politically motivated.
The developments took a significant turn when the Madras High Court heard an urgent petition challenging the arrest. During the hearing, the State informed the court that it did not intend to seek judicial remand and that Udhayanidhi Stalin would be released after completing the required inquiry.
