Two cops attempt self-immolation at DGP office, SP denies their charges

Two policemen from Theni district created a flutter in Chennai on Wednesday when they allegedly attempted self-immolation outside the state police headquarters after making accusations against certain senior officials.

They attempted self-immolation on Wednesday evening to protest against what they called bias by their seniors.

The policemen, identified as Raghu and Ganesh, came to the police headquarters in uniform. One of them took a five-litre can containing kerosene and poured it on his and his friend’s bodies.

Police personnel, including those on duty at the DGP office, overpowered them, preventing any injury to the duo or those around.

They were swiftly removed from the spot. Earlier, speaking to reporters, the two policemen levelled certain charges against some of their senior officials in Theni district and sought redressal.

Meanwhile, Theni SP Baskaran has denied their charges and said they were irregular and indisciplined at work and did not follow the rules of the department.
