Two arrested in Unnao poisoning case

Two youths were arrested in connection with the death of two girls in Unnao.  The two girls were found dead earlier this week. Another girl was found in critical condition and is undergoing treatment.

Sources said that the four persons were detained in connection with the case out of which two of them have been arrested. It is said that one of the two men have poisoned the girls after one of them rejected him.

Police sources said that the accused has mixed pesticide in a water bottle and had given it to the girls.

The two persons arrested in connection with the crime have been identified as Vinay alias ‘Lambu’ and one juvenile.

Vinay confessed that he became friends with one of the girls during the lockdown and they used to talk to each other in the fields. He confessed his love to her but she refused his advances.

Call detail records of accused Vinay place him on the field at the time of the incident, IG Laxmi Singh said. The police also said that Vinay owned a piece of land at Baburaha village, not far from the spot where the girls were found.

Unnao District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar said the Uttar Pradesh government will award a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased girls. Another Rs 2 lakh will be given to the family of the girl battling for her life, DM Ravindra Kumar said adding that the cost of her treatment will be borne by the state government.

The three girls were found in critical condition in a field near Baburaha village in UP’s Unnao on Wednesday evening.
