In a surprise development, directors Bharathiraja and Ameer, who were hitherto hitting out at Rajinikanth, have now offered their support to him.
They said hat if South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce couldn’t lift the ban announced by Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, it’s time to change the name.
“South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce should have the power to solve all the film-related issues across South India but it couldn’t help the producers of Kaala,” they said.
Bharathiraja and Ameer added: “As Kaala is a Tamil film, South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce should have backed the film and helped the producers in the release.”
A few days ago, indicating that the government was in no mood to drop charges against the Puthiya Thalaimurai (PT) Tamil news channel, its Coimbatore correspondent and film director Ameer, chief minister Edappadi K Palniswami said on Monday the government would take further action based on the outcome of police inquiry. He also stated that no sedition charges had been filed against them.
The Peelamedu police in Coimbatore on Saturday registered a case against Tamil television news channel Puthiya Thalaimurai and one of its journalists and another case against film director Ameer and MLA U. Thaniyarasu following a ruckus at a ‘round table’ discussion organised by the channel at a private college premises in Coimbatore on Friday.
