TTV gets cooker, MNM denied torch light

In a setback for Makkal Needhi Maiam the party’s battery torch symbol, which it contested in the previous Lok Sabha polls, was allotted to a new political party MGR Makkal Katchi.

Kamal’s MNM can contest in Puducherry Assembly polls with battery torch, but for TN the party should now apply for a common symbol.

Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan, who launched the poll campaign of his party Makkal Neethi Maiam in Madurai much ahead of schedule, said that he will definitely contest in the upcoming Assembly elections, but uncertain about the constituency from which he would fight the polls.

Kamal Hassan also said that if his party does not get the torch symbol, they will go for a bigger one and opt for the Light House symbol.

TTV Dhinakaran’s Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) has been allotted the pressure cooker symbol for all 234 assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu and 30 assembly constituencies in Puducherry.

Dhinakaran won the RK Nagar by-poll under the pressure cooker symbol in 2017 as an independent candidate. The seat had become vacant following AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa’s demise in 2016. Dhinakaran was expelled from the AIADMK along with his aunt and Jayalalithaa’s close aide VK Sasikala who is presently serving a jail term in Bengaluru and is likely to be released in January 2021.
