The cumulative case tally in Tamil Nadu is nearring four lakh with 5,958 new cases on Wednesday. The state reported 118 deaths, pushing the cumulative toll to 6,839. After the state discharged 5,606 patients on Wednesday, the recovery rate stood at 82%. At the end of the day, there were 52,362 people still under treatment.
Tamil Nadu has recorded an addition of 5,958 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, to take the total number of infections in the State to 3,97,261.
However, after 5,606 Covid-19 patients were discharged on Wednesday (total 3,38,060), the number of active cases stood at 52,362. The State saw another 118 deaths due to the virus to take the total fatalities to 6,839.
The capital city too retained the levels attained a day ago by clocking 1,290 cases, an increase of 20 cases from Tuesday. 118 people lost their lives to the virus attack on Wednesday as the total number stood at 6,839.
Chennai’s neighbours Chengalpet (294), Kancheepuram (329) and Tiruvallur (280) together added 903 cases and 14 deaths. The seven other northern districts added 946 cases and 13 deaths.
It was a day of alarming milestones in the western region, with both Coimbatore and Salem crossing 400- mark in terms of fresh cases. While Coimbatore remained on top with 484 cases, recording a 21% jump overnight, Salem reported 451 cases, posting a 50% jump in new cases.
Some of the districts that reported a higher number of cases include Chengalpattu (294); Coimbatore (484); Cuddalore (286); Erode (102); Kancheepuram (329); Kanyakumari (159); Pudukottai (143); Ranipet (121); Salem (451); Thanjavur (123) Theni (184); Thiruvallur (280); Thiruvarur (105); Thoothukudi (105); Thirunelveli (156); Vellore (158) and Villupuram (189), according to the Health department.
