TN’s Covid count crosses 25,000 with record spike, prominent persons hit

For the fourth consecutive day, the number of Coronavirus positive cases in Tamil Nadu was above 1,000 with the virus infecting 1,286 persons, including 42 from other States/countries.

It is said that a woman IAS officer and DMK MLA J Anbazhagan have been tested positive for Covid-19. The total number of positive cases in the State is now 25,872.

After 610 Covid-19 patients were discharged from various hospitals across the State on Wednesday, the total number of persons recovered was 14,316. This leaves the number of active cases at 11,345.

Being the second worst-hit state in the country after Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu currently has 11,345 active patients and 208 people have succumbed to the deadly virus so far. However, on a positive note, 14,316 people have been cured till date.

Earlier on Sunday, the state government extended the coronavirus lockdown in the state until 30 June. Despite the centre’s decision to allow opening up religious places, they would continue to remain shut in the state.

Of the new cases reported, 15 patients (2 from UAE and 13 from Dubai) who flew to Tamil Nadu tested positive in the state at both the entry and exit gates.
There are currently 11,345 active cases.

Apart from that, a total of 14,316 patients have been discharged or cured of the highly contagious disease, including 610 such patients discharged today, the state health department added.
