Sarkar row: HC issues notice to Vijay, Murugadoss

TN govt slaps notice on Vijay, Murugadoss for Sarkar smoking poster

Sarkar first look poster has run into a fresh trouble. The Tamil Nadu Health Department has issued notice to Vijay and director A R Murugadoss for the film’s poster, where the actor is seen smoking a cigarette.

Ever since the unveiling of the Sarkar first look, it has gone on to invite trouble for its depiction of Vijay smoking a cigarette.

Earlier, it attracted major ire from Pattali Makkal Katchi leader and former union health minister Anbumani Ramadoss, who stated it only promotes smoking.

And now, the officials of Public Health department have issued notices to filmmaker A R Murugadoss and the actor. They have also urged them to remove the first look picture from public domain.

Historically, onscreen smoking has always been a controversial subject in India and several actors have been pulled up for endorsing it.

Soon after the poster’s release, Anbumani tweeted: “Shame on Actor Vijay for promoting Smoking in this first look of his next movie. #ActResponsibly

In another post, he said, “You’ll look more stylish
without that cigarette. #SmokingKills #SmokingCausesCancer.”

The poster shows the crew of the film, with music composer A R Rahman, cinematographer Girish Gangadharan, and film editor Sreekar Prasad among others. The working title of the film was ‘Thalapathy62’.
