TN govt more relaxations; 5,584 test positive, 6,516 discharged in State

The Tamil Nadu government has eased its curbs further, allowing vehicles used for transportation of staff to offices, workplace, factories and establishments, industries, and construction industry to carry 60% of the capacity from the existing 30%-40% capacity.

In an order, chief secretary K Shanmugam has modified certain standard operating procedures issued for social distancing for various activities allowed earlier.

As many as 5,584 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. Chennai reported 993 fresh cases and Coimbatore 445.

Currently, 49,203 persons are undergoing treatment in the State. As many as 6,516 persons were discharged on Wednesday, taking the total figure to 4,23,231. The State recorded 78 deaths — 57 in government hospitals and 21 in private hospitals. This took the toll to 8,090.

The number of infections in Chennai was 993; patients discharged – 1,154; deaths – 14 and active cases were 10,854.

Some of the districts that reported higher number of cases include Chengalpattu – 237; Coimbatore – 445; Cuddalore – 344; Dharmapuri – 114; Kallakurichi – 114; Kancheepuram – 171; Kanyakumari – 136; Nagapatinam – 172; Pudukottai – 118; Ranipet – 108; Salem – 279; Thanjavur – 131; Thiruvallur – 281; Thiruvannamalai – 142; Thruvarur – 127; Tirunelveli – 139; Thiruppur – 120; Vellore – 140 and Villupuram – 139,, according to health department.
