Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit today donated his one month salary for the relief of people affected by the recent severe cyclonic storm Gaja.
According to a Raj Bhavan statement, Cyclone Gaja has brought in its wake heavy devastation and damage
in several districts of Tamil Nadu.
“The Hon’ble Governor Thiru. Banwarilal Purohit who toured the districts of Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur and Thanjavur
to comfort the people in the cyclone affected areas, saw for himself the hardship faced by the people,” it said.
To help in alleviating the sufferings of the people and to assist in relief and rehabilitation efforts, the release stated, the Governor has contributed his monthly salary for the month of November 2018 to the Chief Minister’s Public relief fund meant for calamity relief operations.
Chief Minister K Palaniswami on Wednesday visited Nagapattinam district, which was ravaged by cyclone Gaja, and distributed relief materials to the victims.
He reached Nagapattinam in the morning by train and granted relief to P R Puram residents after receiving various petitions from people. At that time, he assured that government will provide long-term solutions for Gaja-victims so that their livelihood gets restored soon.
Accompanied by his deputy O Panneerselvam, ministers and officials, Palaniswami visited a relief camp in Vailankanni area and interacted with the affected people. The chief minister assured the victims of all possible assistance.
After cyclone Gaja wrecked havoc in Central Tamilnadu, Palaniswami 20 November visited the affected districts in a helicopter. He distributed relief materials among people in Pudukottai and Thanjavur districts along with Deputy CM O Panneerselvam among others. When he was stated to visit the other core areas of destruction the next day, the Chief Minister was forced to return due to bad weather.
