With Covid-19 cases rising sharply every day, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has convened a Cabinet meeting at the Secretariat this evening.
According to sources, the Cabinet will discuss strategies and preventive measures, the impact of the current lockdown and the feasibility of relaxing a few other commercial activities.
“Issues such as Covid-19 situation in Tamilnadu, the measures being taken by the government to combat it, steps to woo investments and easing of lockdown measures among others things will be discussed by the Cabinet,” sources said.
Amid rising Covid-19 cases, Tamilnadu government on Monday decided to extend the suspension of bus services till 31 July. The State government had earlier suspended the bus services till 15 July.
Various issues relating to the COVID-19 lockdown, measures being taken to contain the spread of the pandemic are among the matters likely to be taken up for discussion during the meeting. Politics may also be discussed by the ruling party members.
As many as 4,328 Covid-19 cases and 66 deaths were reported in Tamil Nadu on Monday. The total number of cases have now reached 1,42,798 in the state. Palaniswami extended the curbs in Madurai and nearby regions including the Paravai Town Panchayat and several village panchayats till July 14.
