Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has left for New Delhi on Sunday to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi todayy. He is expected to request the Prime Minister to speed up the process of setting up AIIMS in Madurai besides various issues.
According to reports, Palaniswami is also expected to hold discussion with Modi over intra-party wrangling in the AIADMK.
A few days ago, reports claimed that Palaniswami had sought an appointment with the Prime Minister to discuss issues concerning the state. Recently, Palaniswami met Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu in Tirupati where both offered prayers to Lord Venkateswara.
While Deputy Chief Minister and AIADMK coordinator O Paneerselvam had an audience with Modi in New Delhi last year, ahead of the merger of the two AIADMK factions.
Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) leader T T V Dhinakaran has maintained that Panneerselvam met him last year on his own volition and not on the former’s invitation, a day after the ruling AIADMK rejected the charge.
He also claimed that Panneerselvam wanted to meet him in September in a bid to “oust” Chief Minister K Palaniswami. These charges were rejected by OPS however.
Meanwhile, Palaniswami on Friday sought the intervention of Modi in releasing the six Tamil Nadu fishermen who have been detained in a fishing boat in Iran for more than a month.
In his letter, Palaniswami urged Modi to instruct the Ambassador of India in Tehran to provide essential supplies immediately to the poor innocent fishermen and to take legal measures to secure their immediate release.
