Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa has sanctioned construction of 23,476 tenements and individual houses by the Slum Clearance Board during the current fiscal.
The 7,204 tenements would be built in Chennai, Thanjavur, Trichy, Erode, Coimbatore, Pudukkottai, Namakkal and Nagapattinam towns, and for the economically backward sections.
16,272 individual houses would be built in Chennai, Vellore, Hosur, Ranipet, Virudhunagar, Madurai and 157 town panchayats during the current financial year.
Stating that the Tamilnadu Slum Clearance Board has been constructing houses in Chennai and other parts of the State, a release said in the past five years, the Board has constructed 59,023 houses. In addition, 3,024 flats and 7,513 indvidiual houses are under construction.
The individual houses would have 300sqft, and the board would offer guidance for the construction, besides the government subsidy of Rs 2.10 lakh, the statement said.
The apartments will come up at Rs 400 sq ft each with hall, bed room, kitchen, balcony, bath room and toilet, it added.
