TN Assembly passes resolution against NEET
The resolution was moved by Chief Minister M K Stalin. Dhanush, a student from Koolaiyur village in Salem district of Tamil Nadu, was set to appear for the NEET pre-medical entrance exam on Sunday, September 12.
However, he didn’t make it. On the eve of the exam, on Saturday (September 11) night, the 20-year-old Tamil Nadu student took his own life, reportedly over the fear of failing the NEET exam for the third time.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has blamed
the Union government’s adamant attitude in not exempting the State from NEET for the suicide of a 19-year-old boy, while the Opposition AIADMK found fault with the ruling DMK for failing to keep up its election promise on the issue.
“We’ve come to power and the legal battle against NEET starts now. On Monday, a resolution to gain permanent exemption from NEET will be passed in the Assembly. Addressing this as a problem faced by the India Sub-continent, gaining the support of all Chief Ministers’, we shall succeed”, said CM Stalin.
Dhanush was the younger son of Sivakumar and Revathi, and belonged to a Most Backward Caste (MBC) community. Sivakumar (52) works as an operator at a private firm in Mettur. Dhanush’s elder brother, Nishnath, is doing an Engineering course.
